Design & Innovation

Design creates value and growth

Southern Denmark has an esteemed and significant design and innovation cluster. The ambitions are high, and the effort has resulted in several new and exciting job opportunities in the area.

The design cluster generates business development and growth in companies by means of design—but what does that mean?

The PH lamp, Arne Jacobsen’s Egg and Wegner’s Y-chair are all iconic Danish design products that are widely recognised as the essence of classic design. Design is more than that. Using design in a strategic capacity means using design methods and tools to generate new ideas, new products, new production methods and new business strategies. Across these areas, strategic design is always driven by a user-centred perspective.

Southern Denmark is swarming with creative environments, such as Spinderihallerne in Vejle, The Capital of Children in Billund, Højer Design School, Fremtidsfabrikken in Svendborg and Pakhuset and Volkert’s Fabrikker in Kolding. All of these are representative of the creative companies in the region.

This vast creative milieu is backed by a strong professional design agenda consisting of the Design School in Kolding, the University of Southern Denmark and a wide range of companies that have introduced design methods in their organisations.
